Customer information on the changeover from 3M™ Dyneon™ TFM™ 1600 to INOFLON®M295

Please be advised that the previously used modified PTFE material (mPTFE), 3M™ Dyneon™ TFM™ 1600, is no longer available. The manufacturer, Dyneon GmbH in Gendorf, has decided to discontinue its production.

As a result, KLINGER Kempchen is now using the modified PTFE material INOFLON® M295 (mPTFE) from Gujarat Fluorochemicals GmbH (GFL) as a suitable replacement.

Modified PTFE materials such as 3M™ Dyneon™ TFM™ 1600 and INOFLON® M295 offer several key advantages over unmodified PTFE.

First, the reduced cold flow behavior minimizes deformation of the component under pressure. This means that seals in flanges or ball valves maintain their tightness over a longer period, even under demanding conditions.

Second, the improved fusion of powder particles during the sintering process results in a denser polymer structure, which significantly reduces porosity. As a consequence, permeation is minimized when the material comes into contact with gases or chemicals. Because these substances cannot penetrate the material, they are also unable to react with it. This leads to equally high chemical resistance in both 3M™ Dyneon™ TFM™ 1600 and INOFLON® M295.

Furthermore, the lower porosity compared to unmodified PTFE contributes to enhanced sealing performance of the finished gasket.

These performance benefits of modified PTFE materials are achieved by the polymer manufacturer through targeted adjustment of the molecular weight and the proportion of a fully fluorinated modifying agent.

Importantly, these advantages apply equally to both 3M™ Dyneon™ TFM™ 1600 and INOFLON® M295. Since both materials can be processed under the same manufacturing parameters, the required material change can be implemented without any adjustments to production processes. This provides an additional safety factor for the end user, as no modifications are needed for pressing, sintering, or machining.

INOFLON® M295 is therefore a suitable and fully compatible replacement for 3M™ Dyneon™ TFM™ 1600 in applications such as gaskets or gasket jackets.

KLINGER Kempchen has determined the gasket characteristics in accordance with DIN EN 13555 and the website at:
